Southeast Asian Economies: Facing
COVID-19 Challenges, Joint Efforts Needed to
Tide over Difficulties
The COVID-19 epidemic has recently been spreading in Southeast Asian countries, affecting their economic development. According to WHO statistics, Southeast Asian Countries have had over 580 cumulative confirmed cases. Tourism in Southeast Asian countries, together with the related catering and service industry, has been severely hit, suffering from 30%-90% decrease in the number of tourists in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar. Foreign trade in Southeast Asian countries has performed weak, directly impacting the employment and livelihood of their vendors, peasants, and workers.
China should work with Southeast Asian Countries in strengthening the Belt and Road cooperation and joint prevention and control, so as to deepen the economic and trade cooperation and deal with the negative impacts of the epidemic.
