On the morning of September 10, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and US multinational enterprises successfully held a high-level roundtable themed "Embrace the 15th Five-Year Plan and Jointly Pursue New Development" in Beijing. Zhou Haibing, Vice Chairman of NDRC, and Xia Linmao, Executive Vice Mayor of Beijing, attended the event and delivered addresses. American Chamber of Commerce in China, the US-China Business Council, and more than 60 US multinational enterprises in China participated in the meeting.
The meeting noted that China-US economic and trade relations are inherently mutually beneficial and win-win. Strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the United States serves the interests of both countries and the world at large. During the period of the 15th Five-Year Plan, China will continue advancing high-level opening-up and provide policy safeguards for foreign enterprises to invest and operate in China. Foreign companies, including US enterprises, are welcome to further expand their presence in China, seize development opportunities under the 15th Five-Year Plan, achieve greater progress through mutual benefit, and deliver tangible benefits to people in both countries and across the globe. US multinational enterprises in China are expected to serve as bridges and bonds. Taking this roundtable as an opportunity, they could tap into the potential for bilateral cooperation and advance more pragmatic cooperation projects.
At the meeting, relevant departments of the NDRC interpreted policy considerations for the Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan, policies for attracting foreign investment in the 15th Five-Year Plan period, outcomes of the implementation of the large-scale equipment upgrades and consumer goods trade-in programs, as well as policy measures to boost consumption. Afterwards, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform briefed participants on Beijing’s economic and social development and investment environment.
Representatives from US business chambers and US multinational enterprises covering modern agriculture, consumer electronics, high-tech sectors, biomedicine, industrial manufacturing, electric power and energy, engaged in in-depth exchanges on issues of concern with relevant government authorities.
The roundtable was attended by officials from the NDRC’s Department of Development Planning, Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment, Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection, Department of Employment, Income Distribution and Consumption, Department of International Cooperation, as well as the NDRC International Cooperation Center.
