Capacity Building for Lancang-Mekong Production Capacity Cooperation

In order to implement the important consensus reached by Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders' Meeting, Digital and E-commerce Cooperation Training Course was officially launched in the afternoon on September 11th, 2021, in Nanning, Guangxi, China. The Training Course was a capacity building program for Lancang-Mekong Production Capacity Cooperation, with an aim to drive the cooperation on digital economy. The Training Course was supported by LMC Special Fund, directed by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), was co-organized by the International Cooperation Center of the NDRC and Guangxi Development and Reform Commission. The Training Course had been expected to charter directions for the enterprises’ exchanges and cooperation on cross-border e-commerce in the sub-region, and promote the post-pandemic economic recovery.
Addressed the opening ceremony of the Training Course were representatives from the NDRC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and United Nations Development Programme in China. Representatives from Mekong countries that attended and addressed the ceremony included Mr. Ouch Savin, Director-General, Market Development Department, Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia; Mr. Chittaphong Ackhavong, Deputy Director-General, Department of Planning and Cooperation, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR; Mr. Nyi Nyi Aung, Director of Department of Trade, Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar; Ms. Buniga Chamsai, Deputy Director-General, Department of Trade Negotiations, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand; and Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Senior Officer, Investment Promotion Division, Foreign Investment Agency, Ministry of Planning and Investment of Viet Nam.
All attendees shared a view that, in the face of COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of digital economy has been ever-more increased in the sub-regional cooperation, and cross-border e-commerce emerges to be another important area for Lancang-Mekong economic and trade cooperation.
