On 27 March 2023, Mr. Zhao Chenxin, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), held meeting with Mr. Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat. The two sides exchanged views on the progress and achievements of China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality and its efforts on global climate governance.

Mr. Zhao Chenxin said that China is the first batch of parties to join the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and has all along given strong support to the work of the Secretariat of UNFCCC. In 2015, President Xi Jinping participated the Paris Conference, who has made historic contributions to the conclusion of the Paris Agreement. China has always been committed to green and low-carbon transition. China has not only earnestly fulfilled its commitments by formulating the "1+N" policy system with clear timetable, road map and action plan for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, but also actively helped other developing countries enhance their capacity to cope with climate change. China is a real “doer” and “action-taker” in the global climate governance.

Mr. Simon Stiell affirmed China's efforts in addressing climate change and looked forward to the Chinese delegation sharing relevant experience at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UNFCCC and making greater contributions to guiding the multilateral negotiation process.

Representatives of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection and the Department of International Cooperation of NDRC joined the meeting.
