On the afternoon of September 5, the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC) held the fifth Joint Conference on Advancing Hong Kong's Full Participation in and Contribution to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), together with relevant ministries of the mainland and Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Lin Nianxiu, Vice Chairman of NDRC, and Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, attended and addressed the meeting. Su Wei, Deputy Secretary General of NDRC, convened and presided over the meeting.
At the meeting, the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) and other departments introduced the progress made by Hong Kong in participating in and contributing to the development of the Belt and Road and the next priorities. Xu Jianping, Director General of NDRC's Department of Regional Opening-up, explained the general picture where the central government supported Hong Kong in participating in and contributing to the development of the Belt and Road and responded to related policies and suggestions of the HKSAR government. Representatives of participating units from the Chinese mainland respectively introduced their cooperation with Hong Kong and put forward relevant opinions and suggestions.
