In 2022, China holds the rotating chair of the BRICS again and will host a series of activities including the 14th BRICS Summit. At a critical stage of preparation for the 14th BRICS Summit, according to the arrangements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on April 13th, Gao Jian, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC), attended the Second BRICS Sherpas’ Meeting 2022 on behalf of NDRC. He introduced the BRICS High-level Forum on Sustainable Development to be organized by NDRC to BRICS Sherpas of Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa, as well as representatives from China's relevant departments.

DDG Gao Jian said that the world today is undergoing momentous changes unseen in a century intertwined with the COVID-19 pandemic, the global economic recovery is uneven, and the global sustainable development is facing severe challenges, which bring great challenges to the development of BRICS countries. In order to further leverage the strengths of BRICS countries, enhance effective cooperation, facilitate a strong recovery of the world economy, and promote a greener, healthier, safer, and more sustainable global development, the Department of International Cooperation of NDRC, Fujian Development and Reform Commission, Fuzhou Municipal People's Government and the International Cooperation Center of NDRC will hold BRICS High-level Forum on Sustainable Development on May30-31 2022 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, both online and offline. Nearly 400 delegates from BRICS countries, international and regional organizations will gather together at the forum to exchange ideas on the fight against Covid-19, digital transformation, connectivity of industrial and supply chains, as well as green and low-carbon development, so as to facilitate the recovery of the world economy after Covid-19, jointly promote the industrial development cooperation and build a sustainable future.
As an important event in the professional field of BRICS mechanism, with the name of Sustainable Development of BRICS countries and the theme of Shaping the Future of BRICS Value Chains, the forum focuses on promoting the construction of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind. It will hold one main forum and four parallel sub-fora, providing an important platform for communication and cooperation among member countries and the business community, actively implementing the Global Development Initiative, a major international cooperation initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and making important contributions to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In the future, the Department of International Cooperation of NDRC will give full play to the role as an important window for the NDRC to carry out foreign exchanges and cooperation, make good preparations for the forum, and promote new progress on multilateral cooperation under the BRICS framework.
