On April 9, 2021, the Innovation and Development Center for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was established in Beijing. Ning Jizhe, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) attended the unveiling ceremony and delivered a speech.
Vice Chairman Ning Jizhe pointed out that NDRC and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) jointly initiated the BRI innovation and development platform project, and authorized the China Development Bank to implement it by the Innovation and Development Center for BRI, which was included in the achievement list of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The center is also a specific measure taken by Chinese government and UNDP to actively implement the Action Plan on Jointly Promoting the Construction of BRI. It aims to give full play to the policy guidance and overall coordination of NDRC, the financing portfolio and integration of wisdom of the National Development Bank, as well as the advanced experience and international resources of international organizations such as UNDP in the sustainable development. The center will play an active role in innovative research, project consultation, partnership, capacity building, etc., and strive to create an open, inclusive, cooperative and win-win innovation and development platform for BRI to promote stable and long-term development of high-quality BRI construction.
Representatives from the Office of Policy Studies, the Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment, the Department of Regional Opening-up, the Department of International Cooperation and BRI Center of NDRC also attended the ceremony.
