On May 21, the groundbreaking ceremony of China-supported Nyabarongo II Hydropower Plant was held in Gakenke, Northern Province in Rwanda, which was attended by Wang Jiaxin, charge d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda and Dancille Nyirarugero, governor of Rwanda's Northern Province.
The Nyabarongo II Hydropower Plant is a large-scale comprehensive hydropower project, including dam construction, flood discharge system, water diversion and power generation system, power transmission and transformation circuits.
As one of the key projects of the eight major initiatives put forward at the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, it is also the largest concessional loan project under China-Rwanda economic and trade cooperation.
