The handover ceremony of the China-refurbished Myanmar national indoor stadium was held in Yangon, Myanmar on December 14.

Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai, on behalf of China, signed and exchanged the handover certificates with Myanmar. He said that the stadium, aided by the Chinese government in the 1980s, is a symbolic project of the pauk-phaw friendship between China and Myanmar. The Chinese government decided to refurbish it for free for its further utilization as a national indoor stadium. As China attaches great importance to bilateral cooperation in the sports sector, it has supported the development of sports in Myanmar in recent years and will continue to facilitate in-depth cooperation in sports between the two countries.

Myanmar Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Min Thein Zan said that Myanmar is deeply grateful for the Chinese government's all-round assistance to the construction of the national indoor stadium. Since the stadium was launched, it has hosted many domestic and international sports events and served as a cradle of outstanding athletes.

The Myanmar national indoor stadium, covering a floor area of 6.95 hectares and a total building area of 26,000 square meters, was completed and put into use in 1986. The refurbishment project, started in August 2019, has upgraded its indoor and outdoor decoration, mechanical and electronic equipment and lighting and sound equipment. It is known that after the handover of the refurbished national indoor stadium, China will also provide necessary technical training for Myanmar's maintenance staff.
