Ceremony Marking Completion of Second Phase of Kyrgyzstan's new North-South Highway Project Held

A ceremony marking the completion of the second phase of the new North-South Highway project was held in Kazarman of Jalal-Abad Region on November 10, attended by Du Dewen, Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Zhaparov, Cabinet Chairman of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Erkinbek Osoev, Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan.

On behalf of the government of Kyrgyzstan, Zhaparov expressed gratitude to the government of China and Chinese companies that are working on the project on construction of the new North-South highway, stressing that the completion of the second phase of the project will significantly improve road traffic conditions in Kyrgyzstan, and also have a significant impact on economic development of the region and the country as a whole.

Du Dewen said that the second phase constitutes a significant part of Kyrgyzstan's new North-South highway project. Its completion will bring convenience to the Kyrgyz people, boost local economic development, and deliver new outcomes for China-Kyrgyzstan practical cooperation.

The second phase of the new North-South highway project, with a length of 99 km, started in May 2016. The total length of the project is 433 km. Once finished, the highway project will become the main transport artery connecting Kyrgyzstan's north and south and an important international transport channel in Central Asia.
