On May 4, the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Center detachment of the 27th Chinese medical team dispatched to Algeria went to the C?te d'Azur Hospital in the western suburbs of Algiers to hold a charity acupuncture clinic. According to Zhou Wei, head of the detachment, many Algerian patients have been treated with acupuncture with very good results. Through this clinic, the Chinese medical team helped local patients to relieve common ailments including stroke hemiplegia, facial paralysis, cervical spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis. Hussein Sherid, director of the rehabilitation department of the C?te d'Azur Hospital, said that according to the feedback from the patients, the acupuncture treatment was very effective and reduced the pain without the need for taking medication. The rehabilitation department of C?te d'Azur Hospital will discuss with the Algerian Ministry of Health and the Chinese medical team to try to regularize the acupuncture treatment. This free clinic was part of a series of activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the arrival of the first Chinese Medical Team in Algeria. Since the first Chinese medical team arrived in April 1963, China has sent 27 batches of medical teams with 3,522 personnel to Algeria, treating 27.37 million patients and delivering about 2.07 million newborns.
