On December 29, 2022, the international train of China-Laos Railway (Panzhihua-Vientiane), which is jointly assembled and carried out by Sichuan New Land-Sea Corridor Development Company, the provincial operating platform of Sichuan southbound corridors, and Panzhihua City, successfully made its first trip. After the full commissioning of the New Chengdu-Kunming Railway, this international train of the China-Laos Railway is the first one to organize Sichuan goods in the whole train to export from Sichuan through Panzhihua, connect with China-Laos Railway and reach ASEAN directly. The train was loaded with titanium dioxide, building materials, electromechanical products, and other industrial manufactured goods produced in Sichuan, a total of 24 TEUs. It is expected to take three days to complete the journey. The train would head southward, arriving at Yunnan (Kunming) via the New Chengdu-Kunming Railway via Sichuan (Panzhihua), then reaching Laos (Vientiane) via the China-Laos Railway, and then being transferred to the railroad or highway at Vientiane South Station to reach Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and other ASEAN countries. It would save more than 15 days compared with the previous intermodal transportation by highway and sea.
