The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, which was invested and built and is operated by the China Road and Bridge Corporation in Cambodia, opened to traffic and was put into a trial operation. It is the first-ever expressway in Cambodia and a key project jointly built by China and Cambodia under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. With a total length of 187.05 kilometers, the expressway is a dual 2-lane carriageway spanning five provinces and cities in Cambodia. During the one-month trial use in October, it was open to the public for free.
The successful opening of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is of historical significance to Cambodia. The expressway will facilitate people's travel, indirectly create more than 10,000 jobs, stimulate investment and consumption demand in the provinces along the line, and boost economic development in the southwestern region of Cambodia and even the entire country.
