On October 27, 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony of Samal Island-Davao City Connector Bridge was held in Davao City, the Philippines. This bridge, with a planned length of 3.81 kilometers, is one of the flagship projects under the Philippine "Build, Build, Build" program. It will cross the Pakiputan Strait after being completed in 2027.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, President Marcos pointed out that Samal Island-Davao City Connector Bridge witnessed the solid and continuously consolidated foundation for relations and cooperation between the Philippines and China. After completion, the bridge will help put into use the economic resources and unlock the tourism potential of Davao City and Samal Island. The project will also create job opportunities, facilitate local post-COVID-19 recovery and improve people's livelihood, and stimulate the economic growth in the southern part of the Philippines.
According to Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, after completion, the bridge will promote the sustainable development of Davao Region and inject strong impetus into cooperation between China and the Philippines in the new era. China is willing to work with the Philippines to further deepen exchanges and cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure construction, energy and humanities, with a view to bringing more tangible benefits to the people of the two countries.
