On October 31, 2022, the completion ceremony of the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Nigeria's first modern deep-water port, was held. The project was undertaken by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Cui Jianchun said at the ceremony that the Lekki Deep Sea Port can well meet the needs of Nigeria's economic development. As a commercial project jointly invested by China, France and Nigeria, this port is of great significance to promote Africa's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in the future.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its support for infrastructure construction in Nigeria. The Lekki Deep Sea Port will make Lagos State a maritime logistics hub in west and central Africa and create nearly 200,000 direct and indirect job opportunities for Nigeria in the coming years, effectively unlocking the country's economic development potential.
