Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway was opened to traffic on October 1 for trial operation.
Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is Cambodia's first-ever expressway. The two-way four-lane expressway spans five provinces and cities in Cambodia with a total length of 187.05 kilometers. During the trial operation in October, Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is opened to vehicles for free; from November 2022 to October 2023, a 20 percent discount will be implemented; thereafter, tolls should be paid 100 percent.
Cambodia's Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) Secretary of State Yit Bunna said that the success of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is of historical significance to Cambodia, which facilitates people's travel, indirectly creates tens of thousands of jobs, stimulates investment and consumption demand in provinces along the line, and boosts economic development in southwestern, and even the entire country.
