On May 25 local time, a Chinese enterprise and Guyana's Ministry of Public Works signed a construction contract on the new Demerara River Bridge project in Georgetown, which is the largest transportation infrastructure project in Guyana. This new reinforced concrete bridge spans over the Demerara River in Georgetown, capital of Guyana. With a total length of about 2,800 meters, the cable-stayed main bridge has four motor lanes and two non-motor lanes in both directions. It has a design speed of 80 km per hour and a service life of 100 years. After completion, the new bridge will shorten the river-crossing time by one fourth and more than double the passage capacity of ships.
