On March 30 local time, the commissioning ceremony of Saudi Rabigh Phase III seawater desalination plant, the world's largest single reverse osmosis desalination facility, was held at the project site. The project was undertaken by a Chinese company and was completed and put into operation two months ahead of schedule.

The plant adopts the world's advanced reverse osmosis technology. With a daily water output of 600,000 cubic meters, the plant can provide basic domestic water to more than 2 million households in major Saudi cities such as Jeddah and Mecca per day. During the construction of the project, more than 3,500 jobs were created for the local people, and the purchase of local equipment and materials accounted for 40 percent of total materials, directly contributing around 200 million U.S. dollars to local GDP and driving the economic growth of Saudi Arabia. The plant has been certified by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest single reverse osmosis desalination project. The project also won the Economic Excellence Award of Mecca Province, Saudi Arabia 2021, and was nominated for the Saudi Construction Innovation Award 2021.
