On November 23, the launch ceremony of Stung Treng - Krouch Chhmar Mekong River Bridge and the kickoff ceremony of National Road No. 71C project built by the Chinese enterprises were held in Stung Treng, a city in central Cambodia. Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian attened the ceremony.
Cambodia's National Road No. 71C is located in the provinces of Tboung Khmum and Kampong Cham, and is a key project of Cambodian national road network in the central and eastern regions. As the first-phase project of No. 71C road, the Stung Treng - Krouch Chhmar Mekong River Bridge is 1,131 meters long and 13.5 meters wide, connecting Stung Treng County, Kampong Cham Province on the west bank of the Mekong River and Krouch Chhmar County, Tboung Khmum Province on the east.
Hun Sen said at the ceremony that this bridge is one of the achievements of Cambodia-China cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and China is the main contributor to the road and bridge development in Cambodia.
Wang Wentian said the successful launch of the bridge and kickoff of National Road No. 71C project will significantly strengthen the horizontal transport capacity of central and eastern Cambodia that will effectively boost the economic growth along the road and play a prominent role in improving tourism conditions and realizing rapid development of tourism business.
