The Council of the Belt and Road Portal (BRP) was established on April 30 in Beijing, in a bid to build the portal into an influential information platform for joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The establishment of the council is a vital measure for promoting the BRP to become better, stronger and bigger, and also an effective way for related units to participate more deeply in the joint construction of the BRI, said Ning Jizhe, vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and deputy director of the Office of the Leading Group for Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative.

The BRP was launched online in March 2017.

"The council is expected to expand service channels and sectors, and effectively improve service levels, in a bid to forge the BRP into an influential platform for authoritative release of information, policy interpretation, information services and international exchange for the joint construction of the BRI," Ning noted at the founding ceremony.

The council was initiated and will be managed by the State Information Center under the guidance of the Office of the Leading Group for Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative. The council is made up of 16 members, including the Xinhua News Agency, China Communications Construction Group, State Grid and China Development Bank.

The council aims to collaborate with its member enterprises in the construction of the BRP by enriching content sources, expanding communication channels and presenting stories about China and joint construction of the BRI. The council also provides services and support for its member companies in building high-quality brands. It is a platform of win-win cooperation for both the portal and council members.

Representatives of council members and related departments of the NDRC attended the meeting.
