Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Chinese-Built Kilwa Masoko Fishing Port Project in Tanzania

On September 19, local time, the groundbreaking ceremony for Kilwa Masoko Fishing Port Project in Tanzania took place. The port is constructed by China Harbor. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan attended the event, along with government officials, including the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Development, the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of Transport, and the Governor of Lindi Region.

President Hassan highly praised the progress of the project. She emphasized the significance of the Kilwa Masoko Fishing Port Project for the economy and livelihoods of Lindi Region and the entire nation of Tanzania. She also urged all parties to collaborate, with local governments providing support to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

The Kilwa Masoko Fishing Port project marks Tanzania's first modern fishing port, designed to handle an annual fish unloading capacity of 60,000 tons. It is the flagship project of the Tanzanian government's third five-year plan, reflecting the strong aspirations of the Tanzanian people for the development of the fishing industry and serving as a pivotal driver for the government's efforts to stimulate new areas of economic growth.
