On July 8, Brunei opened a container shipping route between Muara Port, its sole deep-water port, and Beibu Gulf Port in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, marking the first direct container shipping route between the two countries. The opening of this route will further facilitate trade between the regions along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in western China and the East ASEAN Growth Area (EAGA), contributing significantly to deepening and solidifying bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Brunei. During the inaugural ceremony held on that day, Xiao Jianguo, Chinese ambassador to Brunei, expressed that the new shipping route would undoubtedly enhance the close economic and trade relations between China and Brunei, and contribute to the diversification of Brunei's economy. Haji Mohd Amin Liew, Brunei's minister at the Prime Minister's office and second minister of finance and economy, stated that through the newly opened container shipping route, Muara Port will further promote Brunei's connectivity with the world. Brunei is committed to close exchanges with Chinese partners in various fields and aims to develop Muara Port into a regional hub port.
