On August 1, Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta inaugurated the Karimenu Dam Water Supply Project undertaken by Chinese enterprises, meaning that the project has fully entered the delivery stage and been put into operation. The project will greatly alleviate the water consumption problem of nearly 1 million people in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, and surrounding towns.

It is a comprehensive water conservancy project integrating a dam, a water treatment plant and pipelines. The project is located in Kiambu County, about 75 kilometers away from Nairobi. The reservoir capacity of the dam is 26.4 million cubic meters, and the daily treatment capacity of the water treatment plant is 70,000 cubic meters. After completion, the project will supply water to Nairobi and its surrounding towns, ensuring sanitation and public health through clean water.
