After more than three years of intensive construction, the Foundiougne bridge in Senegal officially opened to traffic. It is one of the prioritized projects in the Plan for an Emerging Senegal (PSE), and shows China's positive efforts in implementing the China-Africa Ten Major Cooperation Plans.
The bridge is located in the city of Foundiougne, Fatik, Senegal over the Saloum River. Before its completion, local people crossed the river in canoes, and cars had to wait at least an hour to get onto a small combination ship, making people and goods transportation inconvenient. The opening of the bridge solves the difficulty of a river crossing for residents.
As the longest bridge in Senegal, the Foundiougne bridge becomes one of the trunk routes connecting the northern and southern parts of the country, and serves as a traffic hub connecting the neighboring countries. It is of great importance to the country and well demonstrates the China-Africa friendship and cooperation.
