National Office for Promoting the Rising of Central Part of China was established
Following a notice from the State Commission Office for Public Sector Reform (SCOPSR) on the adjustment of organizational structure of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the National Office for Promoting the Rising of Central Part of China (hereafter referred as the Office) was recently set up in the NDRC, and the work of the Office will be undertaken by the Department of Regional Economy of NDRC. The responsibility of the Office is to study and put forward development strategies, plans and policy measures to promote the rising of central part of China, as well as to coordinate and implement relevant undertakings.
The Department of Regional Economy of NDRC bears responsibility for regional development planning, policy-making and cooperation, priority areas opening-up, river basin protection, land rehabilitation, poverty alleviation and under-developed areas assistance. According to an approval from SCOPSR, two new divisions were set up in the Department of Regional Economy of NDRC, namely, Division of the Central Part of China Development and Division of the Central Part of China Policy System.
Since last April, when the CPC and State Council's Guideline for the Rising of Central Part of China was promulgated, the NDRC and other government agencies have stepped up efforts in the Guideline's implementation. By taking reference of favorable policies applied in the revitalization of Northeastern China and other old industrial bases and the development of Western China, policies for promoting the development of the central part of China have initially taken shape after rounds of coordination and consultation. The establishment of the National Office for Promoting the Rising of Central Part of China marks the substantial implementation of a strategic undertaking.
